If you’re looking to detox or cleanse, Yoga is one of the great ways to start.
Through eliminating toxins from your body, the sequence for today’s workshop is specially designed to help remove toxins, stimulate the digestive system and regulate the thyroid glands not to mention increase muscle tone. In addition to the physical benefits, yoga also helps with mental detox, through the deep yogic breathing yoga that will help to calm the mind and reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety or stress.
Yoga also helps you to focus on the present and away from the chaos of most of our modern day lives. Poses that aid detox include:
Twisting poses & forward bends – the organs are compressed during a twists and deep forward bending, which pushes out the blood filled with toxins and other waste products, when we release these poses, fresh oxygenated blood flows back into the digestive system allowing tissues to heal and rejuvenate and to preform properly.
Restorative pose- it’s always good to end your session with a relaxing restorative pose, and I find this one is a best. Lay with your buttocks against a wall with your legs elevated, this helps to release the toxins from the lower extremities. It also encourages to stimulate the blood and lymphatic system from your feet to your legs, at the same time it promotes fresh oxygenated blood to the stomach and stimulates the digestive system, this pose also calms the nervous system and the mind making you feel energized but grounded at the same time.
